CPD in Stockholm to Copenhagen, Scandinavia

Please note that it is a condition for registration of this conference that all delegates must book and pay for the cruise component through CPE Travel. The reason for this is that we need to command the common areas of the ship in order to conduct our conferences and we can only do so if every delegate and accompanying person is part of our group booking. Unfortunately any person booking directly with the cruise company or other travel agent will not be able to register or attend the conference.

From Stockholm, home of the Nobel Prize, to Copenhagen, a centre of medical research and scientific innovation, Northern Europe has a remarkable history of contributions to medicine, law, science and international cooperation. The North South Baltic Conference@Sea 2028 brings together medical, legal and dental professionals for seven days of academic sessions aboard Silversea’s Silver Nova. With a multidisciplinary Academic Programme led by experienced speakers, the conference provides opportunities to broaden professional knowledge, exchange perspectives and develop professional relationships with colleagues from Australia and internationally.
Sailing through eight countries, the itinerary combines some of Northern Europe’s most historically significant cities with distinctive coastal towns and UNESCO World Heritage sites. Throughout the voyage, delegates can participate in professional discussions and Networking Activities while experiencing the cultural and historical diversity of the Baltic region.

Exploring Northern Europe and the Baltic

Our conference begins in Stockholm, Sweden, a city of elegant waterfronts, historic architecture and internationally recognised academic institutions. As the home of the Nobel Prize, Stockholm has a particularly strong association with achievements in science, medicine and literature. Its museums, royal palaces and historic Gamla Stan offer plenty to explore before the ship departs.
From Stockholm, we sail to Tallinn, Estonia, where cobblestone streets, medieval towers and centuries-old merchant houses make its UNESCO-listed Old Town one of the best preserved in Europe. Estonia is also recognised for its leadership in digital government and innovation, providing a fascinating contrast between its medieval heritage and contemporary society.
Our next port is Helsinki, Finland, known for its striking architecture, waterfront markets and distinctive Nordic design. Beyond its cultural attractions, Helsinki is home to leading universities and research institutions, with Finland’s approaches to education, healthcare and public policy attracting considerable international interest.
Following a day at sea, we arrive in Riga, Latvia, celebrated for its remarkable Art Nouveau architecture and beautifully preserved historic centre. The city’s grand boulevards, lively markets and complex political history reflect the many influences that have shaped the Baltic states. The voyage continues to Klaipėda, Lithuania, a historic port with German and Lithuanian cultural influences. Its charming Old Town provides an introduction to Lithuania’s maritime heritage, while the nearby Curonian Spit is renowned for its sweeping sand dunes, forests and distinctive coastal landscapes.
In Gdańsk, Poland, colourful merchant houses line the historic waterfront of a city that played an important role in European trade and modern political history. Gdańsk is particularly associated with the Solidarity movement, whose influence extended well beyond Poland and contributed to the democratic transformation of Eastern Europe.
Returning to Sweden, we visit Visby on the island of Gotland, a UNESCO World Heritage site famous for its medieval city walls, cobbled streets and historic churches. Once a major trading centre of the Hanseatic League, Visby remains one of Scandinavia’s most distinctive historic towns.

Our next stop is Ystad, on Sweden’s southern coast, where half-timbered houses, medieval streets and the surrounding countryside offer a different perspective on Swedish life and culture.
From Ystad, we sail to Warnemünde, Germany, a traditional seaside town and gateway to historic Rostock. With its Hanseatic architecture and university dating back to 1419, Rostock offers another connection to the region’s long traditions of commerce, scholarship and European exchange.

The conference concludes in Copenhagen, Denmark, a city celebrated for its architecture, design, historic canals and vibrant cultural life. Home to the University of Copenhagen and major centres of medical and scientific research, the Danish capital provides a fitting conclusion to our journey through Northern Europe.

Academic Programme & Professional Networking

With seven days of academic sessions, this Conference@Sea offers a substantial multidisciplinary programme covering contemporary issues across medical, legal and dental practice. Presentations and discussions led by experienced professionals provide opportunities to consider emerging developments, examine different approaches and gain insights relevant to delegates’ own areas of practice. The extended voyage also creates valuable opportunities for professional networking. Through organised Networking Activities and informal discussions throughout the conference, delegates can continue conversations beyond the academic sessions, share professional experiences and build connections across disciplines and jurisdictions.

Academic Agenda

At CPE Conferences, our mission is twofold – to deliver high quality academic content from Australian and International specialists in medicine, law and dentistry and to provide access to experts local to the conference destination. Our longstanding tradition has been to push the delegates’ educational boundaries by exploring the conference destination not only through travel, but also through its medical and legal environment and political context.  We do this by arranging local expert speakers and academic field trips and believe this gives learning a new dimension.

The bulk of the academic content consists of leading Australian practitioners presenting on their area of expertise. To provide diversity in our academic agendas, and particularly to enable us to provide unique local experiences, we do not publish the academic agenda in advance. Often local presenters are unable to commit to a specific session time months in advance. We believe (and indeed our feedback reflects) that the local presenters and field trips add immeasurable value to the academic experience and as such we want to preserve our ability to include the local experts. The academic agenda is released on the day of Welcome Drinks, the day before the first academic sessions.

Apply To Speak

We encourage all our delegates to engage with the academic program by applying to present a topic at our conferences for a number reasons. Showcase your recent publication, interesting case, area of expertise or update on an important topic; approved applications receive a discounted registration rate; for some colleges or societies you may attract more CPD points. Our presenters often gain more from the networking aspects of the conference and have frequently been contacted after their presentation for professional development opportunities such as appearing as an expert witness, being briefed on a matter or other general referrals. We have two options when participating in our academic program, a full speaker registration or an Experts’ Forum presentation. Our speaker registration attracts a discounted fee, and requires a minimum of 1 hour presentation. An Experts’ Forum presentation is shorter in duration and does not attract a discount. It is for those wishing to present for a minimum of 20 minutes.
