CPD in Athens to Athens, Greece

The Athens to Athens – Aegean Oceania Conference@Sea is an incredible journey worthy of an ancient epic. With stops in Athens, Santorini, Heraklion, Naousa, Paros, and more, this cruise conference provides a fascinating historical context to engaging academic content for legal, medical and dental professionals.

From the comfort of the luxury Silverseas Silver Nova ship, this 10-day conference explores the ancient cultures that were responsible for the earliest innovations in law and medicine in Europe. At each of the stops there is a plethora of activities that allow for further study of these historical places, whilst the conference on board the ship provides for a more contemporary analysis of medical and legal issues – and of course there will be plenty of opportunities for professional networking.
Our Aegean journey begins in Athens, one of the most influential cities of the ancient world and the birthplace of democracy, philosophy and Western political thought. Home to the Acropolis and the Parthenon, Athens provides a fitting starting point for a voyage through the remarkable history and cultural heritage of Greece and Turkey.

From Athens, we sail to Santorini, an island shaped by its volcanic history and the legacy of the ancient Minoan civilisation. Its archaeological sites, traditional villages and distinctive Cycladic architecture offer an introduction to the cultural diversity of the Greek islands.

Our next port is Heraklion, Crete, where one of Europe’s earliest advanced civilisations flourished during the Bronze Age. Delegates can explore the Palace of Knossos, associated with the legendary King Minos, and discover the island’s history under Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman rule.

We then continue to Naousa on Paros, a traditional fishing village known for its historic harbour and Cycladic architecture. Paros has a long maritime history and was once celebrated for its fine white marble, used in some of the ancient world’s most important sculptures.

The following day brings us to Milos, an island renowned for its volcanic geology, distinctive coastline and archaeological heritage. The island is perhaps best known as the place where the Venus de Milo was discovered, now one of the most recognised sculptures in the Louvre.

Crossing into Turkey, we arrive at Kusadasi, the gateway to the ancient city of Ephesus. Once a major commercial and cultural centre of the Roman Empire, Ephesus remains one of the Mediterranean’s most significant archaeological sites. Its remarkably preserved streets, temples and Library of Celsus offer an extraordinary insight into the civic and intellectual life of the ancient world.

Our journey continues to Rhodes, an island whose strategic position made it an important centre of trade and military power throughout antiquity and the medieval period. The UNESCO World Heritage-listed Old Town reflects centuries of Greek, Byzantine, Ottoman and Knights Hospitaller influence, while the island’s ancient acropolis and medieval fortifications reveal its complex history.

A day at sea provides an opportunity to enjoy the ship’s facilities and participate in the conference’s academic programme, with expert presentations, multidisciplinary discussion and valuable CPD alongside colleagues from medicine, law and dentistry.

Our final island destination is Mykonos, where an extended stay provides time to explore both the island and its surrounding historical sites. Beyond its traditional Cycladic architecture and maritime heritage, Mykonos is the gateway to nearby Delos, one of the most important archaeological sites in Greece. Considered the mythological birthplace of Apollo and Artemis, Delos was a major religious, political and commercial centre of the ancient Greek world.

The voyage concludes with our return to Athens, completing a journey through some of the Mediterranean’s most significant centres of civilisation, maritime trade and cultural exchange.
A complete Itinerary for the cruise is available when you express interest.

Please note that it is a condition for registration of this conference that all delegates must book and pay for the cruise component through CPE Travel. The reason for this is that we need to command the common areas of the ship in order to conduct our conferences and we can only do so if every delegate and accompanying person is part of our group booking. Unfortunately any person booking directly with the cruise company or other travel agent will not be able to register or attend the conference. Please contact CPE Travel to book your cruise component.

Academic Agenda

At CPE Conferences, our mission is twofold – to deliver high quality academic content from Australian and International specialists in medicine, law and dentistry and to provide access to experts local to the conference destination. Our longstanding tradition has been to push the delegates’ educational boundaries by exploring the conference destination not only through travel, but also through its medical and legal environment and political context.  We do this by arranging local expert speakers and academic field trips and believe this gives learning a new dimension.

The bulk of the academic content consists of leading Australian practitioners presenting on their area of expertise. To provide diversity in our academic agendas, and particularly to enable us to provide unique local experiences, we do not publish the academic agenda in advance. Often local presenters are unable to commit to a specific session time months in advance. We believe (and indeed our feedback reflects) that the local presenters and field trips add immeasurable value to the academic experience and as such we want to preserve our ability to include the local experts. The academic agenda is released on the day of Welcome Drinks, the day before the first academic sessions.

Apply To Speak

We encourage all our delegates to engage with the academic program by applying to present a topic at our conferences for a number reasons. Showcase your recent publication, interesting case, area of expertise or update on an important topic; approved applications receive a discounted registration rate; for some colleges or societies you may attract more CPD points. Our presenters often gain more from the networking aspects of the conference and have frequently been contacted after their presentation for professional development opportunities such as appearing as an expert witness, being briefed on a matter or other general referrals. We have two options when participating in our academic program, a full speaker registration or an Experts’ Forum presentation. Our speaker registration attracts a discounted fee, and requires a minimum of 1 hour presentation. An Experts’ Forum presentation is shorter in duration and does not attract a discount. It is for those wishing to present for a minimum of 20 minutes.
